Biography
Born in the Roman Catholic province of Quebec in Quebec City in 1952 as Johanne Marie Helene Royer. She applied to be accepted to a correspondence art school at 15 but the family finances could not support it at that time. In spite of this, she designed and crafted her own wardrobe from 13 thru to 18 supported by her odd jobs. Although there were no art colleges in Canada at the time, she decided to pursue her other love of maths to become an accountant. This was quickly switched to the new emerging world of computer science. She soon realised that her creative needs were not being met so she also enrolled in art classes at night. Her marriage, motherhood and subsequent divorce soon had her detour from her art focus for awhile but during this sojourn she deeply reflected on her spiritual unfolding; asking those deeper questions. Although she tried to resurrect her love of clothes design, her life path delved more profoundly into her inner life. " I began immersing myself in spiritual development when I became a spiritual bookstore owner in Toronto in 1991 and started facilitating meditation groups. I decided to do this full-time by becoming a 'teaching meditation monk' in 1996 in the US in an 8-month teacher training intensive. I then began to teach meditation in many states, Mexico, Canada, Guatemala, Australia and NZ until 2005." This was when she was given the name Anahata Devi Ishaya. It wasn't until early 2003 that she was again pointed to her desire for artistic development that she enrolled full-time into art school in Nelson, NZ.
She continued to teach meditation and attended Oneness University in India in 2005 & 2006 to fast advance the growth of her consciousness. This led her to focus her attention on producing spiritually-based art. She studied with Andrew Weber, an accomplished Buddhist Tibetan Thangka teacher, and was invited to show her first work, Green Tara, in a group Tibetan exhibition in 2008. Her personal spiritual journey continues with her ongoing subsequent visits to O&O Academy India from 2011 to the present. She started her study into iconography in 2014 and received her Honours Diploma in Art & Creativity in 2017. She is still studying and is also developing her design business pursuing her life's vision and passion of introducing spiritual art into mainstream life to assist in bringing about more tranquillity, joy and growth of consciousness in the world. Also, teaching the Stress Detox courses in New Zealand as a One Consciousness Trainer, gave her more insights, awareness and humility to the making of her artworks.
Now with this new paradigm in the world, Anahata is growing beyond division and assisting to heal the gulf between people, within themselves and in the community. Meditation and the beauty & frequency vibration of spiritual art may well be one the saving graces' to lead us back to balance, peace and harmony.
